The Economics of Litigation: Balancing Financial and Legal Priorities

Track 1
Securities and Shareholder Litigation and Enforcement

Tens of millions can be spent on litigation. Billions have now been spent on settlements. Where are plaintiffs attorneys going next? Where is the SEC's new focus? How can you best prepare and protect your company and your shareholders? Insights to these questions and much more will be thoroughly reviewed in this educational track.  Led by Bruce Vanyo of Katten, known by his peers as the “Dean of Securities Litigation”, you will benefit by participating in timely discussions on securities and shareholder litigation including recent trends, case law, enforcement actions, risk management tactics as well as litigation management strategies. If you represent a public company can you afford not to attend?
Track 2
Global Litigation: Protecting Your Company’s Assets Around the World

Today’s business world is borderless. Companies are global, their products and services permeate boundaries. Technology allows for transactions to be instantaneous.  With warp speed deal-making how can you protect your company and your most important assets domestically, internationally and globally? To assist you in conquering these challenges Morrison Foerster will lead three very important segments. Session one will delve into how you can harness the power of the International Trade Commission to protect valuable intellectual property in the U.S.  In session two, learn how recent FCPA developments and trends will affect how you do business in key markets. Session three will explore the very turbulent waters of risk management and dispute resolution in China.  If your company is doing business globally -- especially if you have important IP -- this track of education will be well worth your time.
Track 3
Litigation:  Areas of Special Interest – Social Media, Wage and Hour, Antitrust

Is it 2012 or is it the Wild West?  The business world now firmly has a new dimension – that of cyberspace. Social Media is an increasing part of our daily lives. What does this mean to the Legal Industry and how can we measure the impact of Social Media on Litigation? Attend the first session of this track and find out!

On the flip side, bringing it back to the basics – there is also a steady rise in Wage and Hour Litigation addressing the fundamental premise of what is fair and required for today’s companies’most important assets, their employees. This session will explore the trends, policies and strategies to mitigate and effectively manage Wage and Hour Litigation.

The third and final session will cover Antitrust Litigation. For more than a century, companies and courts have worked to give meaning to the standards in antitrust statutes. Nothing provides greater incentive for understanding these standards than when your company receives a subpoena in a major antitrust matter or a summons in a plaintiffs' class action, an ever-increasing occurrence in today's environment.
